Facebook has just rolled out 360 photos for worldwide users – this comes following its announcement earlier last month. You can view the 360 photos on the latest version of iOS and Android Facebook app or via the web starting today, and over the next few days, you can post your own 360 photos with your friends and families.

The social media site in a blog post says users can capture panorama photos by using a 360 photo app or 360 camera, and once you post it on Facebook, it will be converted into immersive 360 photos. Facebook introduced photos on Facebook nearly a decade ago, and now hundreds of millions of photos are shared on the platform daily.

Paul Feed

The company earlier introduced 360 videos for the users giving a complete panoramic view – similar to that; you can get the experience by just simply dragging or moving your phone. Identifying 360 photos on Facebook News Feed is very simple – you’ll find a compass icon on the top right of the photo.

The social networking giant says, besides exploring 360 images on your News Feed, you can have the experience with your Samsung Gear VR virtual reality device powered by Facebook-owned Oculus. You will just need to simply click View in Samsung device on the top left corner of the video, and by connecting your phone to the Gear VR, you can experience the photo in an immersive VR environment.

New to the 360 photos? Here is the complete guide for how you can snap 360 photos.

  • You can take a panorama on your iOS device or Android phone, or you can snap a 360-degree photo using a 360 photo app or 360 camera.
  • Now go to your Facebook app and select the Photo/Video you want to share, and it will be posted on your Timeline or News Feed,
  • Once you post a photo, you can see a visible compass icon on the top right of the photo — by tapping on the photo to view it in full screen.
  • On Samsung Gear VR-compatible phones, you’ll see a button in the top left corner of your photo that says “View in VR.” If you tap on that button and insert your phone into your Gear VR headset, you can see your 360 photos in virtual reality.
