Google’s developer conference I/O 16 continues with day 2, and the tech major has introduced several new apps that be available in the coming days. The latest on the list is Duo, a new video calling app for both Android and iOS users that we expect to see this summer.

Since the conference kicked off earlier this week – Google has announced major updates in the keynote, starting from Android N, Google Daydream, Android Wear 2.0, Google Home, and the new Allo and Duo apps. There are still surprising things waiting for Google fans across the world.

Though Google has a video call facility in Hangout, it has been trying its luck in the video messaging platform through Duo, which will provide a better video calling experience for every user.

The new app is a companion to other instant messaging applications like Allo and provides one-to-one conversation with your friend and families even if you are on a slow internet connection.

The duo contains a new feature called Knock Knock which the name suggests; when a person calls you, you can see a video preview of that person before you pick up the call. When you swipe the answer, the call is connected right away. Another very important feature of this app is it is meant to work well even with the low internet speed.

Google Duo

Using some new technologies, Duo uses QUIC for fast connections, and it is built by the team behind WebRTC. Duo monitors it every second for better video quality, adjusting seamlessly when needed.

During the calling, this app also switches and easily works between the Wi-Fi and cellular data connections. Conversation within the Duo app is secured with end-to-end encryption, which another popular platform WhatsApp introduced last month.
