It was in talks that Google is planning to bring a personal digital assistant since Google I/O 16 kicked off this month. The Silicon Valley technology giant has introduced its own digital assistant called, aptly, the Google Assistant – which will be a major competitor to Amazon Echo on the same day the company introduced the assistant Allo massaging app. Google assistant will be available on both iOS and Android by the end of this year.

Google Assistant is built into the existing technology used in Google Now, and it is also built into the Allo messaging app introduced this year at Keynote. It doesn’t mean that it will replace all other apps like Hangouts but is explicitly meant to be a fresh start for Google’s new communications division (which also runs Hangouts and Project Fi). This app is easy to understand and has a clean interface and great innovations on what you have seen in other apps like WhatsApp or Messenger.

During the Google I/O developer conference, Google CEO Sundar Pichai described the technology as “a conversational assistant” that can carry on “an ongoing two-way dialogue.” The technology is voiced enabled and available to the users across devices and similar to what we have seen in Apple’s Siri and Facebook Messenger’s M.

To get the experience, you will have to sign up with your phone number and can connect with a Google account to it. You can see usual chat app stuff: there are sent and received indicators, emojis and stickers. More specifically, the Google Assistant app has a new conversational interface used for getting information from Google.

It has the power of Google’s knowledge graph, which understands many thousands of “entities” and how they relate to each other. It is just a question of the interface, and this massaging app is a very popular type of application on mobile devices and an easy source of communication for people.

Alexa-powered Amazon Echo Speaker is a voice-activated assistant is another emerging medium, but currently, bots seem more likely to be adopted by the masses.
