Google has officially announced the name of its latest version of Android N; it’s now called Nougat. The tech giant took Snapchat to unveil the name. Android Nougat likely Android 7.0. will see the introduction of features such as split-screen, multi-window support, direct-reply notifications, and bundled notifications.
Plus, the new version of Android comes with security updates, new emojis, and improvements to features that extend battery life and changes to the way Java is used and implemented, including support for Java 8. For now, we’re getting a taste of what the new flavor of Android will have with more features to come.
The roll-out of Android Nougat to other devices usually then follows, hitting existing Nexus hardware within a few weeks but often taking several months to be incorporated into other devices. You may not have to wait as long as usual for the update to land on your Galaxy device. It all depends on whether or not Samsung takes advantage of the early developer releases.
Google has confirmed the new Launcher Shortcuts feature that debuted in the second beta for Android N is ready for pressure-sensitive display technology. It will make it easier for Android manufacturers to bring 3D Touch-like technology to Android handsets as it’s baked directly into the OS.
The Android N preview went live for the Nexus 6P, Nexus 5X, Nexus 6, Nexus 9 (Wi-Fi and LTE), Nexus Player, and Pixel C on the Android developer site.
