There is good news for Nokia lovers that the brand name is coming back with its two new smartphones in the first half of 2017. Although there is no confirmed date, the devices are expected to be available by May next year.

Nokia was sunsetted after it was acquired by the global software giant Microsoft. Some Nokia ex-staffers are planning to manufacture smartphones using Nokia’s name operating on the Android platform with their newly formed company HMD Global. The company has announced that it got the license right to use Nokia’s brand name for the next 10 years.

The Finnish company HMD has tied up with some global companies to bring its first mobiles with consumer-centric latest features. Most importantly, the future Nokia smartphones will run Google’s Android operating system, which is used in 86% of the world’s smartphones.

Today marks a happy and important day for HMD. Nokia has been one of the most iconic and recognizable phone brands globally for decades. The excitement of re-introducing this much-loved, well-known, and trusted brand to smartphone consumers is a responsibility and an ambition that everyone at HMD shares.
The upcoming smartphones are reported to be built by FIH Mobile, a subsidiary of Foxconn that acquired Microsoft’s feature phone business earlier this year. The company is headed by Arto Nummela, who switched from Microsoft and was with Nokia before that.

Overall this is a great hope moment that it could create a level of technology and a strong mark in the smartphone industry. Since Nokia is a household name, especially in developed countries, it might create a new start with its brand name and Android combination.
