Microsoft announced that it will no longer provide support for Windows 7. By 2020 the software giant plans to stop security updates and technical support from the company. According to Microsoft, Windows 10 is more popular than Windows 7 although users are more comfortable with windows 7. In December, for example, Windows 10 hit 24.36 percent globally, but it’s dwarfed by Windows 7’s 48.34 percent share.
Microsoft desperately desires that the Windows 7 users should switch to Windows 10, even though Windows 7 is going to be the best desktop operating system (OS) for some period of time. Microsoft desires so because Windows 7 support is coming to an end, and the OS has security issues and can’t cope up with today’s security needs.
In a post headed ‘An early goodbye to Windows 7! Support ends in three years’ Microsoft’s German blog tells users that in three years that from January 14, 2020 there will be no security updates and no technical support from Microsoft. Windows 7 is unable to fulfill increased security requirements and the operating cost has also increased due to increased malware attacks. The software giant is also facing issues since older OS Windows 7 also requires an increased support request.
Since, Windows 10 is the only version that provides appropriate support for the latest chips from Intel, AMD and Qualcomm. There are many programs that are already written or developed for the newer versions of Windows. Microsoft still have three years to think whether they want to switch or not or to use Linux or Mac, or just use Windows 10. The blog post also includes the usual FUD from Microsoft, and the grim picture that the software giant paints for Windows 7 isn’t entirely fair, but it does not serve as a reminder that time is ticking on for the aging OS.
