Google is serious about renewable energy – the search engine giant this week hosted an event at Brussels to discuss the issue. Google is turning to renewable energy and how EU energy policies can meet the changing needs of consumers and the marketplace. There were the leaders from both the private sector and policy community, including keynote speaker, European Commission Vice President for the Energy, Maros Sefcovic and the panellist, MEP Kathleen Van Brempt.

Last December, Google was on the track to reach 100% renewable energy for global operations including data centers and offices both in 2017. The renewable energy becomes increasingly cost competitive and the comany would become world’s largest corporate buyer of renewable power as it had signed the contracts for 2.6 gigawatts of renewable projects.

Companies like Nestle, IKEA and Swiss Re also committed to renewable energy and also making good business sense. European Commission Vice President Maros Sefcovic highlighted the business case for renewable energy and emphasized that the renewables production costs have drastically reduced in the last 10 years.

Google is very much excited to work with policy maker and others to drive a cleaner energy future in Europe.
