Nokia and Xiaomi Officially Coming Together With Business and Patent Agreements

Nokia and Xiaomi signed business cooperation and patent agreement, as announced by the two companies. The multi-year patent agreement includes a cross-license for both companies’ cellular standard essential patents. Nokia also provided patent assets to Xiaomi as a part of the official collaboration.

According to the business agreement, Nokia is to offer network infrastructure equipment designed for delivering high capacity and low power requirements. These will suffice the expectations of the large data center operators and web providers.

Nokia and Xiaomi are to work together on the following:

  • Optical transport solutions for data center interconnect
  • IP Routing based on FP4 network processor of Nokia
  • Data center fabric solution

The two companies have also agreed to go through opportunities for further collaboration in the areas like augmented and virtual reality, the Internet of Things, and artificial intelligence.

Xiaomi has its influence in over 30 countries and regions, and it’s most well known for its smartphones with innovative technologies and disruptive prices. Xiaomi is also a leading player in the Internet of Things. Its Mi Ecosystem IoT platform is used by more than 60 million devices. Also, more than 8 million daily active connected devices are using the Mi Ecosystem platform.

Nokia, on the other hand, is one of the most popular companies in the field of global communications and information technology. It provides communications services to the likes of governments, major enterprises, and consumers. It is known for delivering the most complete and end-to-end portfolio of services, products, and licensing.

Rajeev Suri, the President and CEO of Nokia, said Xiaomi regarding the cooperation that both the companies are looking forward to “working together on a wide range of strategic projects.” The same was echoed in the words of the Chairman and CEO of Xiaomi, who said that the collaboration would serve their priority of creating large and high-performance networks and providing formidable strength to software and services.
