Geekbench has noted Snapdragon 840 even before its official announcement. According to the noticing, the chip is in a new Samsung smartphone SM-G9600. It could possibly be the Galaxy S8 Lite or Galaxy S8 Mini, and surely not Galaxy Note 8.

In fact, the listing on Geekbench does not confirm the exact model. But it is confirmed that the processor is quad-core and is running at 1.77 GHz. The motherboard is marked as ‘sdm840’, which leads us to confirm that it is the Snapdragon 840 chip.

Though it seems obvious that the 840 chip will be more powerful than Snapdragon 835, Geekbench says otherwise. Snapdragon 840 is rather a tweaked version of Snapdragon 820. It is more likely to pack a better modem and GPU.

None of the information is confirmed yet by Samsung, but Geekbench. Geekbench also states that the smartphone is to include 4GB RAM and Android 7.1.2 Nougat. The phone scored 1,782 in single-core and 4,212 in multi-core tests of Geekbench. This suggests that the SoC is pretty capable, but it fails to match the power of the Snapdragon 835.

The current flagship offerings of Samsung are Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus. Both the phones were announced in March. Now, it becomes interesting to check if SM-G9600 is Galaxy S8 Lite or Mini. Given that it is so, the smartphone is expected to sport the same design as in the Galaxy S8 flagships. This requires Samsung to fit thin bezels for the smaller SM-G9600 as compared to the Galaxy S8 handsets.
