Yesterday, Samsung announced the Samsung Portable SSD T5, the newest portable solid state drive or PSSD. Featuring the latest technologies, it means to provide industry-leading performance among external memory products.

The Portable SSD T5 packs the built of Samsung’s newest 64-layer V-NAND technology. It is destined to deliver the highest (in the market) transfer speeds and encrypted data security. Its durable and compact design provides users with easy access to their data at any place and time.

The SSD “continues our legacy of leadership and innovation,” says Un-Soo Kim, the senior VP Samsung of Brand Product Marketing, Memory Business. He also mentioned that the device is lightweight, pocket-sized, and can easily be handled within your palm. It is smaller than an average business card. It measures 74 x 57.3 x 10.5 millimeters (3.0 x 2.3 x 0.4 inches), and weighs just about 51 grams.

In his words, it is an “ideal portable storage product for consumers and professionals.”

Features of the SSD T5

The Portable SSD T5 is able to deliver up to 540 Mbps of transfer speed. It is about 4.9 times faster when compared to external HDD products in today’s market. The device is designed mainly for business and IT personnel and content creators, alongside mainstream users. It features an aluminum exterior and metal finishes. As for availability, Samsung has Alluring Blue with 250GB and 500GB variants and Deep Black with 1TB and 2TB.

There are no movable parts of the SSD. It bears a shock-resistant internal frame and can withstand accidental drops from up to 2 meters or 6.6 feet. Its software is based on AES 256-bit hardware data encryption. It is perfectly configurable with the security settings of PCs and Macs. It is also able to receive the latest software and firmware updates.

The Portable SSD T5 is available with two cables for connection – USB-C to A and USB-C to C. This makes it compatible with various devices. The users get to have a three-year limited warranty. It has been in the global markets since August 15 with a price of $129.99 for the 250GB variant. The users of Android tablets and smartphones get to have a mobile app for the device.
