The last two weeks saw many BlackBerry users facing issues while switching their BBM accounts from one platform to another. They could not access their contacts, groups, and BBM channels after their device transfer.

Then, they came to know that Blackberry had been working on something. This made BBM servers unavailable temporarily. Now, the company announced today that it is to divide BBM into 3 services. These are:

  1. BBM Enterprise for all devices,
  2. The BBM Consumer for BBOS and BB10, and
  3. BBM Consumer for Android, iOS, and Microsoft devices.

As for other changes, those are aimed at preventing BBM consumer accounts on BB10 from transferring to another device. That other device might just be running on other platforms, like Android, iOS, or Windows.

In other words, BBM consumers can transfer from BBOS and BB10 to any Android, iOS, or Windows device. This requires them to use their existing BBID, simultaneously maintaining all of the contacts. But, this also includes that they will not be able to switch back to their BBOS or BB10 devices by using the same BBID. This particular change will be effective starting from September 25.

Therefore, from the upcoming date of September 25, users would need a new BBID for transferring their data from BB10 or BBOS to other devices. At the same time, it is possible that you can use an existing BBID for a seamless transfer within BB10 and BBOS.

Best Part of the changes in BlackBerry

Now, for the best part! Blackberry is planning for a new feature addition. It goes by the name MPoP or Multiple Points of Presence. This will allow the users to have BBM Enterprise on all of their devices while using the same BBID.

Let’s see how it all turns up for the BBM users. Follow this space for feedback.
