Yesterday, at the VDC (Vive Developer Conference) in Beijing, Vive announced its VR open platform – the Vive WAVE. This opens a new significant dimension in the progress of virtual reality for the Vive developers.

Vive Wave covers device optimization aspects for third-party partners and easy mobile VR content development. This far, Chinese hardware companies such as Thundercomm, Quanta, Pimax, Pico, Nubia, Juhaokan, iQIYI, Idealens, EmdoorVR, Coocaa, Baofengmojing, and 360QIKU – are supporting Vive Wave, and ‘the integration of VIVEPORT™ VR content platform into their future products.’

Vive Wave lets the developers create content on a common platform and prepare the same for multiple hardware providers. More than 35 Chinese and global content developers have already developed VR content optimized for Vive Wave. Fourteen of them demonstrated live demos at the VDC.

Well, the Beijing VDC housed the announcement of VIVE FOCUS as well, which is Vive’s first standalone VR headset in China. Vive Focus, of course, is based on the Vive Wave platform.

Vive Focus provides an advanced easement for extensive usage with easy on-off capabilities. It is also the ‘first commercial standalone device to deliver inside-out 6-degree-of-freedom tracking (6DoF), which Vive calls “world-scale.”

The ‘freedom’ entails the users of Vive Focus unlimited mobility without any attachment requirement to other devices like mobile or PC. At the same time, it reflects on cost reduction for them to buy a premium VR device from the Chinese markets.

Additionally, the Vive Focus boars a high-resolution AMOLED screen that brings superior clarity and low latency. It also packs the latest Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ 835 VR Platform to strengthen its performance. It runs on Vive’s VR open platform and provides you with access to the affluent VR content library of Viveport.

Last but not least, at the VDC, Vive announced a ‘global strategic partnership with Unity Technologies for enabling one-click VR content to publish for the developers working on standalone VR, PC VR, and mobile VR.

Unity Technologies aims at integrating Viveport into the content platform for using the new Vive Wave VR SDK. Further integrations include Viveport’s VR ad functions and in-app payment for creating revenue opportunities in Chinese markets.

In the remaining time of this year, Viveport is ‘giving back 100% of the entire profit earned on the platform to the community of the developers. It can be considered warm enough as a direct investment towards future enhancements in the VR industry, and definitely a major step towards the establishment of the market for Vive itself.
