Today, Amazfit came up with its second smartwatch under Xiaomi, the Huami Amazfit Smart Sports Watch 2. Amazfit has already gained popularity as a wearable brand via the release of the original version of the watch, thanks to its originalities in simplicity and style. The trend is not just well maintained; rather has exclusively evolved into the new model.
The watch is unveiled along with a premium variant called the Amazfit Smart Sports Watch 2S Premium Edition. Speculations suggest that we may even come across a western variant sometime soon in the future named Amazfit Pace 2.
The smartwatch is running Amazfit’s own Watch 2.0 OS and is braced with more premium built and materials than its predecessor. The base is made of carbon fiber reinforced polycarbonate, with the front having a 2.5D sapphire crystal face. As for the bezel, it’s polished ceramic and bears 316L stainless steel navigation buttons.
The watch’s internals consists of a tough exterior supporting a 1.34-inch low-power color touch display with 320 x 320p resolution. It is powered by a 1.2GHz dual-core CPU incorporating 512MB RAM and 4GB storage with about 2GB accessible.

Having three hardware buttons and quick-release straps, the watch is compatible with at least Android 4.4 and iOS 9 and above.
Next is the lipo battery of 280 mAh, providing 5 days of battery life without GPS and with intense usage of 35 hours, positioning and heart-rate monitoring activated. This alone makes the smartwatch stand out in markets among competitors.
In addition, it is an expert tracker of activities. It packs PPG heart rate sensor, Triaxial Accelerometer, Gyro, Geomagnetic Sensor, Barometer, Ambient light sensor, and a Sony 28nm low-power GPS chip.
The watch is able to track 11 types of sports activities. The gadget is waterproof for up to 50 meters having a 5 ATM label. It also offers ‘fairly advanced metrics’ credit to the partnering of Huami with Firstbeat Data. The metrics are exercise load (TD), exercise effect (TE), oxygen uptake (VO2 max), and recovery time.
Among the tracking abilities, the watch can monitor walking, running, cycling, swimming, mountaineering, ellipticals, triathlon, and trail running.
The regular variant of Amazfit 2 can be pre-ordered by clicking here starting today, with shipments starting from December 31. The Premium variant will arrive by January 9 with all features the same as in the regular variant, except the sports leather strap of 22mm.
The regular variant is priced at CNY 999 or $150, and its Premium version will cost CNY 1,499 or $226. According to some sources, the latter would ultimately have a lower price tag, as much as $200.
The point to note is that the watch has its app and the interface in simplified Chinese only for now. We can expect precise translations pretty soon.
