The Uber app is going to be expanded to BBM. Uber has defined this extension as an attempt to keep eye on the emerging markets and trends.

BBM is almost on the verge of extinction in the Western markets as a result of the recent declination of the BlackBerry industry. But it’s not obsolete yet. Telco – Emtek, an Indonesian company, operates BBM these days. Statistics show that BBM still has a decent number of consumers, especially in Indonesia as well as in some areas of Africa, Asia, and the Middle East.

This tie-in with BBM will let the users easily book their desired ride from the chat app inside the “discover” menu.

BBM will be using the m.uber, the web-based application of Uber. This will help the application offer exactly the same features Uber provides irrespective of poor quality internet connections or devices.

Uber has officially confirmed that the customers in some selected nations of Asia, Europe, Africa, the Middle East and North America will be able to enjoy this new feature, for time being.

With this latest initiative, Uber is trying to target Indonesia, the fourth most populous nation in the world. As of now Go-Jek and Grab of Indonesia are the largest economies in Southeast Asia. If the rumors are believed to be true, Uber is trying to go after them. This year alone, Uber has reached the $5.1 billion mark, and experts believe there’s still a lot of room in the Southeast Asian region for growth.

This step is a very good opportunity for BBM. This can give BBM a fair chance to compete against the likes of WhatsApp, Messenger, and other such chat applications and survive in the thriving messaging apps industry.

Do you use blackberry or BBM? Do you think they will be able to utilize this opportunity? Do let us know in the comments section below.
