It is expected that Samsung’s revenues in the second quarter of 2017 have surpassed the same of Intel’s. This is quite suggestive of the fact that the former may win the global semiconductor leader throne for this year. If that is to happen, then it will further mark the end of the 25-year-old reign of Intel in the concerned industry.

In the second and third quarters of 2017, Samsung’s revenues consistently pumped up as high as deliberately knocking Intel off its perch. The research institutions believe that Samsung is well on course to be the largest semiconductor player in the world.

As for the 25-year tenure of Intel, it had 15.9% of the market share in the industry last year, keeping it ahead of Samsung by 11.8% and Qualcomm by 4.5%. Samsung turned this around for itself in this year and looks good enough to keep on being the leader for quite some time if things are in place.

As per the market research firm IC Insights, Samsung’s surge in the revenue is majorly credited to the average selling price of DRAM and NAND flash memory chips. If the South Korean company can keep on playing its cards well enough crossing Intel within this year is going to be a walk in the park, not considering the foundries in the mix.

Qualcomm, on the other hand, can manage a third place, while it is on the way to be merged with Broadcom. In the context, Nvidia may get an entry among the top 10 global semiconductor sales leaders this year for the first time.
