On this second day of the year 2018 which has just started, Google released the security patch corresponding to the first month of the year. As of today, the owners of the Pixel devices and the latest Nexus will begin to receive the corresponding January security patch update that solves the vulnerabilities discovered during the past month.

The security patch lands on compatible devices through an OTA, although those more impatient can choose to perform the installation manually. Thanks to Google’s factory images on the web for Android developers.

The Pixel and Nexus begin to receive the security patch of January

The first security patch of the year 2018, solves up to 20 system vulnerabilities that could endanger to a greater or lesser extent, the privacy of users or the integrity of their devices. Fortunately, Google points out that, to this day, no operating system user would have been affected by these security problems.

In the security bulletin of this patch for January 2, you can also see the vulnerabilities related to the different brands of Android devices that have been discovered in the system as well as those belonging to processor manufacturers such as Qualcomm or MediaTek.

As we mentioned, the Nexus and Pixel bug fixes will begin its deployment in the next few hours via OTA to all compatible devices, although it is always possible to install the OTA manually, downloading the corresponding ZIP that Google offers on the web created for this purpose or well installing the complete factory images. The devices holders, ‘not Google’, will have to wait until their respective manufacturers decide to adapt the patch to their terminals if they ever do so. It is expected that brands like Essential or Nokia release their respective patches over the next few days.
