Microsoft’s first Insider Build, launched in 2017, has been followed up by Windows 10 Insider Preview Build in the afternoon of Thursday, 11th of January, 2017. This new update comes with a lot of new features, including Quiet Hours and language packs. The new patch of updates also includes new mitigations to protect Windows Insiders from both Spectre and Meltdown vulnerabilities.
One of the most substantive updates that have been added to Windows 10 Build 17074 is ‘Quiet Hours’. This update is making a lot of people happy as they can now choose manually or let Windows choose for them the hours when they wish to receive the least number of notifications. Quiet Hours will start automatically when the user is playing games in full screen while DirectX is enabled, and when they are duplicating the display. With Quiet Hour enabled, users will receive notifications only from the contacts pinned to the taskbar and from the most noteworthy apps.
The Microsoft Store has received new language packs that will let the user choose a desired region and language by selecting the Settings menu of Microsoft Store. This feature will allow the company to deliver frequent updates with better translations to the language packs. To allow easier navigation to documents and folders, the new update will show links to the same in the Start Menu. A direct link to customization settings has also been added to the Start Menu. The Storage option in the Settings menu has been updated with Disk Cleanup and Startup Apps have also been moved to the Settings menu from the Task Manager. ‘App volume and device preferences’ option has been added to the Sound Settings.
The new update will allow Microsoft Edge to store credit card details in the browser, and the card can be selected from a drop-down menu to auto-fill the requisite information, other than the CVV number. E-books stored in Edge as EPub or PDF files can now be read in full screen. Microsoft’s bookstore will now make suggestions for new books if the e-book library is found empty, thanks to the latest update.
The Windows 10 Build 17074 is available only for Windows Insiders on the Fast Ring, and those who chose to ‘Skip Ahead’. The update is not available for AMD chipset powered devices.
