Information dug out regarding Sony’s official recruitment hints that the company might be replacing its characteristic LCD displays with the now in-vogue OLED displays. The list initially posted on November 30, 2017, and updated on January 12, 2018, shows that the company is hiring Display Engineers whose job description includes the ability to “drive display/OLED integration to mobile phone products (design/verification/production).”

In January last year, Sony introduced its first 4K HDR OLED TV, Sony A1. This year’s CES witnessed the launch of the next OLED TV by Sony, Bravia A8. While Sony has been experimental about its displays so far as its TVs are concerned, it has hitherto been pretty strict about using LCD displays for its smartphones. But with even Apple giving in to the rising popularity of Samsung’s characteristic OLED displays, having used it in their latest iPhone X, it is only a matter of time before Sony starts following the trend. And the latest information regarding its hiring criteria has raised quite a few eyebrows. Information leaked in the Japanese publication, Nikkan also support the suggestion that Sony’s next Xperia phone may have an OLED display.

It is not yet sure as to who might be providing the OLED panels to Sony, but the company may depend on LG and JDI for the same. OLED displays are not the only novelty that Sony users may look forward to, as rumors suggest that the company’s 2018 smartphone line-up is also expected to be equipped with enhanced processor performance and superior battery life. Sony may announce its latest development at the MWC, to be held in February, failing which consumers may expect announcements in the IFA, to be held in September.
