Yesterday, January 23, Samsung introduced the new 860 PRO and 860 EVO SSDs (Solid State Drives) of its SATA interface lineup. These SSDs aim to provide fast, reliable, compatible, and capacitive advancements across different applications, ranging from daily commuting to graphics-intensive operations and heavy workloads.

The new products are built on the 850 PRO and 850 EVO and are based on the similar but improved V-NAND technology of Samsung.

The new 860 PRO and 860 EVO SSDs combine the latest 512Gb and 256Gb 64-layer V-NAND, up to 4GB LPDDR4 mobile DRAM and a new MJX controller to elevate the user experience for both consumers and businesses. – Un-Soo Kim, the Senior VP of Brand Product Marketing, Memory Business of Samsung

With the ongoing increment of file sizes these days due to high-resolution and 4K content, users need fast data transfer, sustainable high performance, and reliability for a long time. These are going to be well compensated by the new Samsung SATA SSDs, providing up to up to 560 MB/s read and 530 MB/s write speeds.

In addition, the products will be available with a 5-year warranty, with ‘up to 4,800 terabytes written (TBW) for the 860 PRO, and up to 2,400 TBW for the 860 EVO.’ These as well come with JMX controller that can offer faster interactions with the host system. The controller has improved Linux OS compatibility and houses enough power to be suited for workstation storage.

The capacity variants for 860 Pro are 256GB, 512GB, 1TB, 2TB and 4TB. The 4TB variant further can handle up to 114 hours and 30 minutes of 4K Ultra HD video. The SSD has a 2.5-inch form factor that makes it widely compatible across PCs, laptops, workstations, and NAS.

As for the 860 EVO, the capacity variants are 250GB, 500GB, 1TB, 2TB, and 4TB. Alongside the 2.5-inch form factor, it houses the mSATA and M.2 form factors, supporting ultra-slim computing applications. The enhanced Intelligent TurboWrite technology hosted by this SSD makes it six times better in terms of performance than its predecessor. The read and write speeds are respectively up to 550 MB/s and 520 MB/s.

Both the SSDs are available starting this month, with 860 PRO priced at $139.99 and 860 EVO at $94.99. Check out the Samsung SATA SSD specs and further technical details here.
