YouTube Go is a brand new app built with the motive of unlocking the power of YouTube to the users of the coming generation. Since being launched in India, last year, the app has been launched in 14 additional countries, including Indonesia, Nigeria, and Thailand. It has made a successful and positive impact in making more people interested.

For instance, Japan is a startup that uses technology to train and empower low-income communities and families in rural Indonesia. It tries to equip entrepreneurial women with financial skills and resources. YouTube Go is being used as part of their regular community meet-ups. The chairwoman of a group downloads the playlist of videos about starting and running a small business. Then she shares these videos with each other using YouTube Go’s nearby sharing function.

There’s another example in Lagos, Nigeria, where a teacher runs a primary school for low-income children. He uses YouTube Go to download and watch more videos that help him with everything from mathematics lesson plans to how to decorate the classroom.

YouTube Go is being expanded to over 130 countries, today. YouTube Go provides access to YouTube, irrespective of connectivity status. It helps to control data usage as well.

The YouTube Go home screen features trending and popular local videos in the native language. It suggests videos that are relevant to the users. YouTube Go provides a video preview when a thumbnail is tapped on. It helps the user to get a sense of what the video is about before watching it. It also lets the user download the video for viewing later. The user can choose and restrict the amount of data he’d prefer to use for a certain video. YouTube Go allows users to share videos with their friends and family nearby without using any data.

To make these new features even more prominent in the app, a few design changes have been made as well. Videos are made available to be downloaded, streamed, and shared in high quality in addition to the previously existing basic and standard quality resolutions. A new personalized content section is included that can be accessed with a simple pull from the home screen. The share nearby feature is made easier to access directly from the home page. Now the users will be able to share multiple videos at once.

YouTube has been working really hard to build an app that can bring YouTube within the reach of a much larger audience and as of now, it seems, they are heading in the exactly correct direction.
