Reports launched by MSPoweruser, suggest that Uber has dropped support for its Windows 10 app. Months ago, the PC and desktop app started showing issues; thousands of reviews claim that the app is hardly functional and cannot pinpoint the pickup location on the map anymore. Though the Uber Windows 10 app is still there in the store, it can be downloaded, and it will be hard to function due to a back-end change and lack of the corresponding update on Windows 10 and 10 Mobile, making the app unusable.

On the top of Uber’s Cortana, Uber has confirmed,

Yes, we’re no longer supporting app on Windows. You can use Uber with the following smart devices instead:
-iPhone (iOS 7 or newer)
-Android (Jelly Bean or newer)

In 2013 ridesharing company Uber launched its app for Windows Phone devices, but within a short period had to remove it followed by complaints from users claiming that it’s nothing more than a web wrapper for the firm’s site. Later in 2014, it launched an official Windows Phone 8/8.1 app, which many complimented. Then in 2015, it came up with a new app for Windows 10 Mobile and PCs, leveraging the powers of Microsoft’s Universal Windows Platform (UWP) and Cortana. The staunch supporter of Microsoft’s mobile changes today as it stops supporting for Windows 10 app.

It’s no surprise that Uber has dropped support for the Windows 10 app as, according to the state of Windows 10 Mobile, it restricts the need for a UWP-based phone app. Microsoft’s involvement with the PWA evolution is something to watch out for in this evolutionary period of technology. PWAs are put in the store first by the Microsoft Company. Research shows that around 25% of users in the USA never touch a PC on an average day, depending completely on their smartphone for their computing needs. The lack of important apps on the desktop would lead users to reach for iPhone or Android phone even when sitting right in front of their desktop.
