Apple is known for making innovative new advances in the world of technology, and they revolutionized how people used headphones in 2016 when they launched the AirPods Headphones alongside iPhone 7.

The AirPods did away with the hassle of being connected to the phone via wires and contributed significantly to making Apple’s other products category its fastest-growing division due to its immense popularity among reviewers and consumers alike. Now Apple may be working on upgrading the AirPods and hoping to launch the next generation of wireless headphones as early as this year.

People familiar with the ongoing process have confirmed, albeit anonymously, that Apple intends to frequently upgrade the AirPods by adding new hardware features, just as it does with iPhones and iPads. The Cupertino, California-based technology giant is working on developing a new version of the Pods with an upgraded wireless chip.

The first model of the device used a wireless chip known as the W1, and its next version, the W2, was launched by Apple last year with the Apple Watch. In this new version, users can summon Siri without having to physically tap the device and say “Hey Siri”; it shall be voice-activated, as on an iPhone or a HomePod speaker. This device is internally called the B288.

The AirPods will also receive another upgradation next year, and this upgrade intends to make the device resistant to rain and splashes of water. It shall not be equipped to function when submerged in water.

Apple’s plans may be changed or delayed, and since none of these reports have been confirmed, users can only wait patiently for further details.
