The global mobile market scenario is charged up with the multitude of device announcements made at the platform of Mobile World Congress, with star performers such as Samsung Galaxy S9 hogging the limelight. But Sony is not very far behind in the competition league as it is geared to introduce its first full screen smartphone flagships to its consumer base.

In the wake of an increasing rollout of almost bezel-less, 18:9 displays by the smartphone manufacturers, Sony had stuck to the outdated bezel model till date. But now, the upcoming Mobile World Congress in Barcelona is set to mark Sony’s disassociation from the bezel phones as the company is slated to announce its fresh new flagships, namely the Xperia XZ2 and XZ2 Compact. However, there’s a twist in the highly anticipated launch of these two flagships as Evan Blass (a mobile reporter based in Philadelphia) has stolen the thunder by having already shown the models to the world today via his twitter handle, much before the occurrence of the official event at the MWC 2018.

Both these versions sport the same features with some caveats, and slightly differing in their screen dimensions, 5.7-inch for the XZ2 and 5.0 inch for the XZ2 Compact. This new flagship is powered with the much acclaimed Snapdragon 845 chip processor of Qualcomm and is also flagged by the advanced Android 8.0.0 Oreo version.

The XZ2 is composed of 3D glass on both sides of its aluminium frame. What’s more, the front face has a higher screen-to-body ratio than any former versions of Sony Experia. To add to its stunning look, its shiny finish ranges up to four colors: black, green, silver and pink. On the other hand, The XZ2 Compact has a non-scratch polycarbonate finish. But on a similar note, the full HD LCDS of both these models are protected by Corning’s Gorilla Glass 5.

The flip side of Xperia XZ2 sports the same 19-megapixel, f/1.8 camera setup that is featured on the XZ Premium, thereby offering 4K HDR recording and can efficiently capture slow-motion without affecting the HD resolution. XZ2 Compact has a different camera orientation than the Xperia model. Following the track of the recently debuted Sony smartphone models of Xperia XA2 and XA2 Ultra at CES, both these new handsets have an inbuilt fingerprint scanner, detaching it from the power button on the phones.

Furthermore the front face of these two models also offer high amplitude sound with the “S Force” speakers attached there. The XZ2 model adds on to the high quality audio feature with a haptic feedback mechanism that adjusts and appropriates the vibrations to the speaker’s sound. Not only this, the XZ2 model is certified for ingress protection and boasts of a durable 3180mAh battery that’s conveniently chargeable both wirelessly or via USB-C. In contrast, the XZ2 Compact contains a battery that allows only charging via USB-C and also is comparatively less durable than Xperia XZ2, with its 2870mAh pack.

All the same, despite the online leak of information about the models, the relevance of the MWC 2018 still remains as official details regarding the pricing and release specifics can only be known on the day of the event. So for all the Sony fans out there, hold on for the official event !
