Today, March 14, Xiaomi launched the Redmi 5 in three variants in India and is showcasing the handsets at the live-streamed online-only launch event via the brand’s official Facebook page.

Redmi India, in its tweets revealing specs, price, and launch details of the phone, has also announced for users a chance to win a ‘Compact Powerhouse’ if retweeted. Xiaomi nicknamed its latest smartphone the same, referring to its premium features.

Redmi 5 showcases 5.7 inch HD+ Full-screen display supporting 720 x 1440p with the trendy 18:9 aspect ratio, 282ppi pixel density. It is a dual nano-SIM phone with MIUI 9 based on Android Nougat ‘out-of-the-box.’

The device packs the Snapdragon 450 octa-core processor and has a 3,300mAh ‘full-day’ battery life. It is worth mentioning that several features are equipped in the new Xiaomi Redmi 5, specifically targeting the users in India, which means the phone may bear different (here-and-there) specs in its release in other markets.
The handset houses a 12 MP rear camera with f/2.2 aperture, PDAF, and LED Flash. The front camera is 5 MP for selfies, bearing LED selfie-light and Beautify 3.0 capabilities of Xiaomi. The device is available in the colors black, gold, rose gold, and lake blue. Dimensions are 151.8 x 72.8 x 7.7mm, and the weight is 157 grams.

The three variants for Xiaomi Redmi 5 with price in the country are 2GB+16GB for Rs. 7,999, 3GB+32GB for Rs. 8,999 and 4GB+64GB for Rs. 10,999. As Jain noted, the handsets have been tested several times for durability. These as well will be available with an ultra-slim case for free.

Sales are starting from March 20 via Mi.com, Mi Home stores, and Amazon India. There is a cashback offer of Rs. 2,200 from Jio.
