These days, the biggest issues with modern-day laptops are probably the heating problem and the battery life. It’s been statistically seen that the actual battery life is usually half of what the manufacturers promise. Qualcomm Technologies, after revolutionizing mobile technology, is now interested in taking the challenge of solving these issues.

They are planning to introduce smartphone technology to the PC. Their target is to design the Always On Always Connected PC devices. These devices will obviously be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon Mobile PC Platform. By allowing OEMs, they want to provide beyond all-day battery life with up to 20+ hours of continuous video playback. These will be instant-on, always-on, and always-connected devices. With four to five times longer battery life in connected standby mode, with apps and email data getting synced and up-to-date in the background, it is quite similar to that of smartphones. The platform is much more power-efficient and, at the same time, dissipates very little heat.

Recently, the devices powered by the Snapdragon platform were subjected to a test against those powered by traditional platforms. The results were filmed, and the outcomes gave us a demo of how to establish the promise of delivering better real-world user benefits.

The Snapdragon-powered Mobile PC platforms can be turned on instantly, are always on, and can always be kept connected to the Internet through a low-power mode called connected standby while allowing the notifications & necessary syncs, just like smartphones. The Qualcomm mobile PC devices are designed to be sleek and thin, capable of handling workloads for up to 20+ hours without compromising performance. The low-powered solution is specially engineered not to generate much heat & hence the devices will not require any cooling system.

From the performance graphs, it can easily be seen how, unlike the Qualcomm solution, the traditional platform’s heat output jumps dramatically within minutes of activity. The Qualcomm solution can also be seen as maintaining a consistent level of performance over a period of time.

HP, Lenovo, and ASUS will soon be launching the Always On, Always Connected PCs, globally.
