BlackBerry and Jaguar Land Rover of Tata Motors announced today, March 22 about their licensing agreement to use software for electric vehicles. Both the companies let out basic details of the plan.

Blackberry is to provide infotainment and security software to the British carmaker for autonomous driving. The Canadian tech company is on course to develop the technology and has gone on to make similar agreements with the likes of Qualcomm, Aptiv, and Baidu.

BlackBerry’s software for vehicle computer systems is used since long for running car infotainment consoles. The software is made by the QNX unit of the brand, who targets 2019 for beginning generating revenue.

As for the technologies based on security, the firm has another unit named Certicom. They are engaged in serving clients such as IBM, Continental Airlines, and General Electric.

On the other hand, JLR revealed its plan last year on making all of its new cars having electric or hybrid versions starting 2020. In January, they said they are eyeing for setting up a software engineering center in Ireland that’d be dedicated towards advanced autonomous driving and electrification technologies. Works on the plans have started for them, it seems!

The agreement does add to a spicy future awaiting the car lovers. However, humanity demands more implementary preciseness in terms of safety after the recent unfortunate accident.
