Amazon launches a new Kindle app for devices with slow internet problems in India. It is called Amazon Kindle Lite. Amazon has launched it mainly for Android users. The new app is already available on Google Play. It is for low-storage smartphones and also for devices that still function on either 2G or 3G networks. Amazon has stated that they have launched the new Kindle Lite to improve the “customer experience with faster downloads, instant reading, and a lighter app”.

It should be noted that Amazon had already launched the app as an open beta on the Google play store last year. Now it is made available for all Android users. The new Kindle Lite is given the most appropriate name since it’s as light as 2 MB, which is a remarkable achievement on the part of the Amazon team. The new Amazon Kindle lightweight app is like the original Kindle. It will have personalized recommendations, free e-books, samples, and titles across languages, including English, Hindi, Tamil, Marathi, Gujarati, and Malayalam.

As part of our continued focus on India, we are always working to improve the reading experience for our customers. Apps constantly compete for space on a mobile phone and Kindle Lite solves this problem for our readers. – Rajiv Mehta, Country Manager of Kindle

It also features ‘whispersync’, which will help the users sync all the ebooks that they read across devices into one single and compact app. So there will be no need to download another app or store ebooks somewhere else. It all can be accessed from a single app. Amazon is offering 80% cash back on the first ebook purchases on the app only if the Amazon user pays through using the Amazon pay wallet. The offer obviously has its own limitations since it is only valid during the first month of the app launch.
