SF Express, on March 27, received the drone aviation license and started commercial operations already. Its subsidiary Jiangxi Fengyu Shuntu Technology earned the first license issued by China Eastern Civil Aviation Administration (CAAC). SF became the first logistics company approved by the aviation authority to operate unmanned aerial vehicles. As per the SF Express license provisions, SF Logistics can use UAVs for logistics distribution in pilot areas approved by CAAC while leading commercial operations.

SF Express license also marks China’s legal entry into drone logistics and distribution. It is a historic step for China in its development of drone delivery and is a recognition of its logistics distribution and operation capabilities.

According to the company, they started drone trials in June 2017. The first four steps: preparation, initiation, implementation, and validation, have been completed, and pilot objectives have been received.

Their next step is to realize docking on an aviation logistics network that connects the large manned transport aircraft, branching large drones and small terminal drones. This will get them 36-hour access to city toads for operating.

SF targets are to build a logistics drone coverage network to expand logistics distribution scope in a vastly remote area with a mountainous landscape and water.
