Facebook to revise Terms and Data Policy clearer, to include more privacy language

Apr 4, 2018, 5:00 pm

On Wednesday Facebook Inc (FB.O) plans to show people the written policies that people agree to when they use the social network, “It’s one of the ways people can make informed decisions about their privacy.” Facebook continues “so we’re proposing updates to our terms of service that include our commitments to everyone using Facebook.” Facebook tries to explain language about the protection of personal data as it prepares to comply with a strict new European law.

The updates do not ask for new rights to collect, use or share data and will not affect the privacy settings that people have made on their Facebook accounts, Rob Sherman, Facebook’s deputy chief privacy officer, said in a phone interview.

The updates are made to make things much clearer without changing any of the privacy choices made by you in the past. The new updates bring new features and tools where you can now buy and sell items on Marketplace and start a fundraiser for a cause that should be cared about. You can share Live and 360-degree videos as well as, create effects to your photos.

There is a personalized experience for the users. “We’re providing more information on how this works”. It explains the various reasons for the need to customize posts and ads as well as the Groups, friends, and pages suggested.

This time Facebook confirms “we will never sell your information to anyone.” “We have a responsibility to keep people’s information safe and secure” imposing strict restrictions so that Facebook partners can no longer disclose data. They make it clear about their commitments and also explain the circumstances where they might share data.

You can have control over the ads, which is also confirmed to be kept confidential by the company. Facebook updates in Terms of Service also tries to explain how they decide which ads to show you.

Facebook is the corporate entity that provides the Messenger and Instagram service which use the same data policy. Facebook is part of the same company as Whatsapp and Oculus explaining the shared services infrastructure and information.

Device information as collected is respected on your mobile device. “We’ve added more specific information about the information we collect when you sync your contacts, including call and SMS history”.

Facebook will collect feedback on the drafts for seven days and, depending on what it hears, it will further revise them as according to the information provided to them.
