Last year, during the iPhone X launch, Apple showcased some exclusive AR Snapchat lenses specially made for iPhone X. Today, we have got the news that Snapchat is releasing them officially. As the three lenses which are made available today are redesigned for iPhone X, no other iPhone user will get the opportunity to enjoy these lenses.

The lenses are compatible with iPhone X only, as mentioned earlier. All the credit goes to the TrueDepth front-facing camera of the smartphone. In those 3 lenses, a Mardi Gras-Esque Mask can be seen, a Day of the Dead skull, and a pretty gold-plated eye cover that looks funky. As per the claims made by Snapchat, the lenses will help to reflect the surrounding light in a more realistic manner.

As soon as you open the app and focus the camera on your face, the lenses will automatically stick to your face with respect to the jawline area. As the TrueDepth camera blurs the background nicely, it becomes an easy job to apply minor elements and 3D objects to the picture. Even if you shake your head continuously, the masks keep fitting on your face by adjusting the movement.

There was news that Apple might be sharing facial mapping data to develop these lenses further. While the visual facial mapping can be accessed by third-party app makers, Apple says the mathematical representation will not be shared. As this one is used to unlock the phone via Face ID and has been encrypted on the device itself, even the company employees are restricted from retrieving it. Along with the mapping data, apps can use 50 different facial expressions allotted.

In the developer agreement, Apple has clearly mentioned that the data fetched cannot be used for advertising and marketing purposes, keeping the security issues in mind.
