It remains remarkably quiet around HTC this year. The Taiwanese manufacturer recently introduced the Desire 12 and the Desire 12 Plus, but these are both middle-class smartphones. The top model, the HTC U12 Plus, is only expected next month.
In 2017, three premium devices were announced by HTC. At the beginning of the year, the U Ultra was introduced, followed a few months later by the U11, and finally, the U11 Plus was unveiled at the end of the year.
If we can believe the different reports, the new model will immediately be named HTC U12 Plus. Since the mobile division of HTC last year has been significantly slimmed down, this could only be the only top model of the Taiwan manufacturer in 2018.
HTC U12 Plus spec
The U12 Plus will be equipped with high-quality specs. Thus the mobile phone is powered by the powerful Snapdragon 845 processor with 6 GB of RAM memory. A 6-inch screen is expected with a QHD+ resolution and an 18:9 aspect ratio. Unique is the addition of a dual camera on both the front and rear of the device. The cameras on the back have 12 and 6-megapixel resolutions. The double selfie camera both have 8 megapixels.
As with the U11, the U12 will also feature HTC’s squeeze function. We were not entirely satisfied with the Edge Sense functionality last year in our HTC U11 review, but the Taiwanese are doing their best to improve and extend the functionality.
Remarkably, the HTC U12 was shown last month during a 5G event in Taiwan. The new smartphone was shown here because Qualcomm’s new X20 LTE modem allows download speeds of up to 1.2 Gbps.
The HTC U12 + will be dust and waterproof. Thanks to the glass housing, wireless charging is also supported. Furthermore, the Android smartphone comes standard with 128 GB of storage memory, and a 3,420 mAh battery is installed.
When the HTC U12 Plus comes out, is still unknown, but there is already talk about a disclosure in the spring. The U11 was introduced in May 2017, it is expected that the U12 Plus will also see the light in May.
