To bring new jest to Windows Translator app, Microsoft has launched an update for both Android and iOS devices. With this update, the users of the Microsoft Translator app will be able to translate into several languages offline. The support is powered by AI hence can be used without internet connection. The AI-powered translator feature is available for non-AI hardware devices too which Microsoft will improve in its upcoming updates.

The update with offline Microsoft translator support is designed for the users who frequently travel abroad. For them the huge roaming charges are burdensome. But now translating will be easy without any pressure on the pockets! So the user will take the advantage of the translator app by downloading the required language pack in advance or before leaving for an abroad trip.

Since it can be used offline, the users will be able to avoid the roaming charges. All they need to do is download the language pack in advance. The update brings selected languages like English, Chinese, French, German and Russia for now as language packs. And more language packs are to be included later on with upcoming updates as Microsoft is working very hard on it.

Though the users can access the Translator app without any internet connection, the translation will be very close to the one based on cloud power. However, the accuracy of the translations with the offline system may not be as close to the online translation.

Still, Microsoft’s Arul Menezes confirmed that these new translation packs are “dramatically better” providing far more human-like translation than the old ones that relied on an older approach to machine translations that has now been far surpassed by machine learning-based systems. According to Menezes words, “The gap between the neural offline translation and the previous translation quality with our older models is huge.” The offline translator accuracy will be improved by the company in the upcoming updates.

Reports said that the Translator app in the Offline mode is more advanced and after being compared to that of Google’s, it is far better. This comparison with Google has been made by Microsoft based on the tests it has conducted with Huawei using the AI coprocessor in phones like Mate 10 and Honor 10.

With the world moving faster than ever, translation makes communication better. So Microsoft’s approach to making translation easier is a huge step. Now anyone can translate anything, anywhere and that too without internet connectivity.
