According to International Data Corporation, Apple turns out to be the leader in the first three months of 2018, that’s Q1, in the global market of tablets. The tech giant ended the tenure with a 28.8% Tablet market share, as its tablet shipping reached 31.7 million. Although, this was a decline of 11.7% from last year’s Q1.

From January to March of this year, Apple shipped 9.1 million iPads, of which iPad Pro tablets amount to 1.8 million. This also made Apple the leader in the detachable market. Trailing Apple from the second position is Samsung has 16.7% of the market share of the concerned competition. Shipments of Samsung declined by 11.4% as compared to the 2017 Q1.

In third place is Huawei, with 13% gaining over 2% from last year. Lenovo managed 1.8% growth from the Q1 of last year, and most of it came from its detachable portfolio.

The report of IDC reads for Amazon that it “slipped into fifth place though this does not come as a surprise as the company’s tablet shipments are highly seasonal.”

Detachable Tablets such as the Microsoft Surface and iPad Pro are the refreshed parts of the growing niche, experiencing over 2.9% year-over-year growth and capturing 15.3% of Tablet market share amid the newer models. On the other hand, the traditional slate tablets are down with 26.8 million units, a decline of 13.9% from the previous year, as concluded by the Worldwide Quarterly Tablet Tracker off IDC.

Jitesh Ubrani, the Senior Research Analyst with IDC, pointed out that Google is the new ‘serious’ contender with Chrome OS entering the detachable market. He further added that Microsoft is trying to run Windows on the ARM (Advanced RISC {Reduced Instruction Set Computer) Machine) will strengthen the competition further.
