Instagram is developing a usage insights feature on its social media platform. Insta has confirmed that they are undeniably working on a new feature that will tell customers more about the time they spend on the app to promote healthier digital living.

Instagram CEO Kevin Systrom has confirmed the features in development for the platform. “We’re building tools that will help the IG community know more about the time they spend on Instagram, understanding how time online impacts people are important, and it’s the responsibility of all companies, to be honest about this. We want to be part of the solution. I take that responsibility seriously.” Systrom tweeted.

There is a trend reflected by the companies to acknowledge the unhealthy practice that their products can promote, especially among younger users. Google, too announced several tools for its users. The latest Android operating system that would help users manage their screen time better – the new do not disturb mode called “shush” that makes it easier for users to ignore notifications and a “wind down” mode that gradually changes screen color to grayscale and lowers brightness as bedtime approaches are some of the several tools announced by Google.

Earlier this year, Apple reacted to an open letter from two major investors asking the company to do more to trim down the growing smartphone addiction among children. Apple, in its statement to The Wall Street Journal, said it is thinking deeply about how its products are used and their impact on users and the people around them.

The new feature by Instagram is willing to endure a potential reduction in usage and ad views to positively impact the mental health of its community, and that’s an admirable pledge taken by Instagram.
