Microsoft unveils a new control system designed for those with limited mobility. The Xbox Adaptive Controller is a base system designed to enable and empower gamers across the globe, including specific mobility-restricted players. The mission of Microsoft these days is to get as many players to participate in the technological revolution, including people with limited mobility to play games on Xbox.

We have been on a journey of inclusive design, which celebrates and draws inspiration from people who are often overlooked in the typical design process. – Phil Spencer, Head of Xbox

The Microsoft Xbox Adaptive Controller is created to address these challenges and remove barriers to gaming by being adaptable to more gamers’ needs. It is developed in partnership with organizations across the world including The Cerebral Palsy Foundation, Craig Hospital, The AbleGamers Foundation, SpecialEffect, and Warfighter Engaged. “We worked closely with them and directly with gamers who have limited mobility to assist in our development,”- Microsoft blogged.

Their main aim is to make the device as adaptable as possible, allowing gamers to create a setup that works for them in an extensible, plug-and-play, and affordable way. To make the Microsoft Xbox Adaptive Controller a viable solution, they have worked closely with third-party manufacturers to support external inputs that can be plugged into the new controller.

The new $99.99 Xbox Adaptive Controller is exclusively available through Microsoft Store that will be launching later this year. We still need to wait as Microsoft confirms sharing more information about the pre-ordering availability soon.
