Uber, a US-based cab aggregator, on Monday revealed through an emailed statement that it had elevated its India head, Amit Jain, to Regional General Manager for the Asia Pacific region. This includes New Zealand, Japan, Hong Kong, Australia, and India.
The emailed statement by Uber’s spokesperson confirms that the current president of Uber India and South Asia, Amit Jain, will be “stepping into leading our ride-sharing operations as the new Regional General Manager, APAC.”
Jain claimed that he is much excited to take this new responsibility of growing and expanding the business in APAC. Jain joined as Uber India President in May 2015, and now he feels “really excited to be stepping up to lead Uber’s ride-sharing operations in APAC. We have amazing people doing phenomenal work here at Uber”.
Of the total markets, Uber India is one of the fastest growing markets, which accounts for 10% of its total rides. The company stated that it would continue to invest in the country as it looks to grow business in the incredibly important and core market by up to 10 times in a decade as it even continues to compete with local rival Ola.
Both Ola and Uber are supported by SoftBank, but it is still not clear whether SoftBank intends to spur another consolidation in India.
