Xiaomi Redmi Y2 Finally Launched in India Packing 5.99-inch Display and MIUI 10

Xiaomi has launched its Redmi Y2 in India today, with the company’s country-head Manu Kumar Jain, onstage. The launch event also included details of the MIUI 10 rollout, with info on device compatibility, features, and those multiple rollouts starting by mid-June.

Xiaomi Redmi Y2 specifications and other details are revealed, and we observed some differences compared to the speculations before launch. It sports 5.99-inch HD+ display with 18:9 aspect ratio, 1000:1 contrast ratio, 296ppi and 450 nits brightness. The display bears the support of color temperature adjustment and night mode.

Redmi Y2 is powered by Snapdragon 625 (37% better performance than Y1) octa-core 64-bit with 14 nm technology, coupled with Adreno 506 GPU. Its IR blaster ensures pairing and controlling of numerous models of television, set-top boxes, air conditioners, and other devices and equipment from hundreds of brands.

Cameras of the smartphone are powered by AI and dedicated to the selfie. The front snapper has a 16 MP camera for rich selfies with f2.0 as aperture, additionally featuring AI Beautify 4.0, selfie timer, AI portrait selfie, Auto HDR, and face recog. The rear dual setup has 12 MP and 5 MP cameras, packing bokeh shots, 5 piece lenses, a single LED flash, and a large 1.25um pixel.

The device will run MIUI 10 based on Android Oreo. MIUI 10 concentrates on speed, gestures, design, and sound. It brings Progressive Web Apps, along with a QR code scanner and Paytm integration in the camera.

MIUI 10Via the multiple rollouts, MIUI 10 Global Beta ROM will come to Redmi Y2, Y1 Lite, and Y1. Other Redmi phones in the list are 5, 5A, 4, 4A, 3S, Note 5 (India), Note 5 Pro, Note 5A, Note 5A Prime, Note 4, Note 4X, Note 4 (TW), and Note 3. The Mi phones are Mix 2, Mi 6, 5s Plus, 5s, 5, 4, 3, Note 2, Max 2, and Max.

There are two storage variants of Y2: 3/32GB priced at Rs. 9,999 and 4/64GB costing Rs. 12,999. Both models are expandable by microSD up to 256GB. The dual-SIM phone also has a dedicated slot for microSD and will be shipped with a case.

Other features include Face Unlock, fingerprint reader, Wi-Fi display, and Bluetooth 4.2. The fingerprint reader can be used to take selfies as well. The handset weighs 170 grams and is comfortable to handle.

Amazon came up with teasers before the launch, and Y2 will be an Amazon exclusive in India, with sales starting from June 12, 12 pm IST. The color options are Gold, Rose Gold, and Dark Grey.
