Samsung has been working on a foldable smartphone for years. There are also times speculated about the release of this device. In recent months, more and more details have become known, Samsung itself has already made several statements regarding the foldable Galaxy phone.

The smartphone is also known under the name Galaxy X and will probably be presented in the first half of 2019. Unfortunately, the years of development also seem to have an impact on the price.

Galaxy X the foldable Samsung smartphone

The Korea Times, the oldest English-language newspaper in South Korea, this week has written an extensive publication about the foldable Samsung smartphone in which several analysts speak.

The device will be released under the Galaxy brand. Parts suppliers will deliver the orders to Samsung around November 2018, after which they will start the assembly. The launch will take place in the first half of 2019, analyst Park Hyung-woo told the newspaper.

There is also an indicative price for the foldable Galaxy smartphone. According to Kim Jang-yeol, Head Research at the Golden Bridge Investment listed company, the Galaxy X will be released in the first half of next year and will cost approximately 2 million Korean Won, which amounts to more than € 1,550.

Mr. Jang-yeol further reported that the device has a 7.3-inch OLED screen. The folding phone has two inside panels and one outside panel, with the two inside panels forming the 7.3-inch display. When folded, the display is 4.5″ tall.

Introduction to Galaxy X will be the world premiere

Furthermore, reports that Samsung will be the first company in the world to introduce a flexible smartphone. Samsung seems to attach a lot of value to launching a foldable smartphone as the very first manufacturer.

Not all innovations go smoothly, as the company has been working for ages on a smartphone with a fingerprint scanner under the display. For both the Galaxy S9 and the Galaxy Note 9, it was thought for a long time that these devices would be equipped with an in-display fingerprint sensor. But as it now looks we will have to be patient until the beginning of 2019, then the Galaxy S10 will be unveiled, the 10-year anniversary edition of the S-series.

Competing manufacturers Vivo and Huawei have meanwhile become a model in stores with such an innovative fingerprint scanner. Huawei added a little extra, by also providing the device with a triple camera. Also when it comes to the full-screen smartphone, the Chinese Vivo has defeated the Korean manufacturer, with the recent introduction of the Vivo NEX.

Samsung is, therefore, looking forward to writing this innovation to their name. And regarding the price, rumors have been going on for some time that Samsung wants to sell the Galaxy X limited. There will undoubtedly be enough people willing to put € 1550 on the table to be the proud owner of this technical feat.
