In 2015, the Chinese Huawei released her first smartwatch; this luxury smartwatch was immediately appreciated. The Huawei Watch 2, released in 2017, was also well received, partly due to the 4G support. The Watch 2 was among the first high-end smartwatches with Android Wear 2.0. What innovations can we expect from the Huawei Watch 3? Can this watch have integrated Bluetooth earbuds?

Huawei smartwatch with integrated Bluetooth earbuds

On 28 June 2018, WIPO (World Intellectual Property Office) approved a patent from Huawei Technologies entitled ‘Wearable device having Bluetooth headset’. This is an innovative Huawei smartwatch with integrated Bluetooth earphones.

The built-in Bluetooth earphones contribute to making the user perform simple phone calls. The volume of a call can be easily controlled, and there is also active noise cancellation. The wireless earbuds are waterproof. It doesn’t require the user need to lift his wrist, to perform a quality on the phone.

No need for a Bluetooth headset anymore? Then you simply store it in the smartwatch itself. For this, Huawei has patented a number of options.

An opening is made on both sides of the watch case, where the compact earbud can be stored easily. By means of a release spring (closing cap with spring mechanism), it is locked in the watch. The cap can easily be removed by clicking on it, after which the earplugs can be removed from the smartwatch. This solution is recorded in the most detail and is by far the most user-friendly.

Alternatively, a similar storage function is shown, where the Bluetooth earphones are not stored in the watch case but in the watch band. The user then carries it, as it were, under his wrist.

Then a Bluetooth headset is shown, which can be clicked on the bottom of the watchband. A two-click mechanism is discussed, a kind of small slide rail or a magnetic effect.

Huawei Watch 3

In March 2017 Huawei, simultaneously with the P10 smartphone series, introduced the Watch 2. A Huawei Watch 2 2018 model was released last month of this smartwatch. This new variant, however, shows minimal differences with the smartwatch that was put on the market a year earlier.

The waiting is also on the Huawei Watch 3. At the MWC 2018, Richard Yu, CEO of Huawei, has indicated that he is currently developing the Watch 3. There would, however, be no reason to rush with this model. Finally, since Android Wear 2.0, Google has not released a real update of its smartwatch operating system. However, the name was changed to Google Wear OS earlier this year, so that iPhone users can also feel somewhat connected to Google’s OS for smartwatches. But new functions were left out.

Perhaps the Chinese manufacturer chooses to release the new Huawei smartwatch simultaneously with the Huawei P30, this high-end smartphone is expected at the time the MWC 2019, end of February 2019. Between the Watch and the Watch 2 was also two years development time, both are also unveiled at the Mobile World Congress. Moreover, it seems likely that Google will also release an update of its Wear OS by that time. This is how Android Wear 2.0 was introduced in early 2017.

At present, few details are known about the new smartwatch from Huawei. However, in the meantime, we have come across various patents of Huawei that relate to smartwatches. In January of this year, we wrote about an innovative Huawei Watch with a watch band and touch control.

Not long after Huawei also patented a smartwatch with gesture input, this smartwatch could detect writing movements on your back. In addition, in May 2018 we found a patent against a Huawei gaming smartwatch. All in all, the Chinese manufacturer has enough creative ideas to provide the next generation of smartwatches with innovative functions.

It is not completely inconceivable that Huawei chooses to pay attention to the earplugs in 2019. Finally, a Bluetooth headset is not only useful when telephoning, but also for listening to music during exercise this invention can form a solution.
