Microsoft yesterday, June 9 announced its new Surface Go, that’s dubbed the smallest and lightest Surface device so far, making it the most portable one as well. It is also the most affordable among all Surface devices.

Microsoft Surface Go is a 10” device weighing 1.15 pounds and 8.3mm thin. It starts at $399 MSRP, and Microsoft says that the device represents “a new entry point for the Surface family.”

The laptop sports a custom-built high-resolution PixelSense 3:2 display that offers softness for eyes while working. It can as well offer vibrantly high-contrast for activities like watching a video or editing photos.

It further supports the Surface Pen, which comes with precision for accurately computing designing, note-taking, and drawing. It also supports 4096 levels of pressure sensitivity, low latency, and low pen parallax.

In portrait mode, the screen renders the page to a scale similar to most school textbooks. The landscape mode renders pages side by side, like a paperback book being held in a hand. Writing on the screen ensures intuitiveness and naturality.

The device is rather a two-in-one, providing convenience both as a laptop and a tablet, with the detachable screen. It is powered by 7th-gen Intel Pentium Gold Processor 4415Y, and can offer up to 9 hours of battery life. Microsoft said that it collaborated with Intel for optimizing the power, performance, and the battery while focusing on making it efficient to handle the most critical daily computing tasks seamlessly.

Other features of convenience include a built-in kickstand with 165 degrees of extension, and the Windows Hello camera providing familiar and secure sign-in with face recog. As for ports, the laptop bears Surface Connect for docking and charging, USB-C 3.1, headphone jack, and microSD card reader for storage expansion.

Surface Go supporting Wi-Fi is available for pre-order starting today, July 10 in the following countries: Germany, Netherlands, France, Italy, Finland, Denmark, Norway, Austria, Poland, Spain, Portugal, Luxembourg, Switzerland, Sweden, Belgium, the UK, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, and the USA. Shipments will start from August 2. Microsoft adds that there’s an LTE model coming up later this year.
