When Oppo launched its sub-brand named ‘Realme’ last year, it was obvious that it had the top-class and highly demanded Xiaomi in view. Though with the Realme 1 model, the Chinese smartphone developer couldn’t make a big hit in the market, the model managed to get noticed. Since then the model has turned out to be a distinct entity and has now introduced its successor i.e., Realme 2.

The device is recently introduced in the Indian market and comes with a price tag of 8,990 Rs. Its variant featuring 4GB RAM is available at 10,990 Rs. On the basis of color, the model has three variants: Diamond Blue, Diamond Black, and Diamond Red. This review will focus on the Diamond Black Realme 2 comprising 4GB RAM paired with 64GB internal memory configuration. Let’s have a look at its features:

Design

Instead of a glossy look, the Chinese smartphone maker has given this set a sober design. The phone is packed in between a glass back and 2.5D front glass along with a matte finish metal body that doesn’t let the phone slip from hands while taking the selfie. Coming to its design, the model is quite identical to its predecessor Realme 1 and Oppo F9 Pro. Realme 2 features a diamond-cut design with a weight of approximately 168gm and the dimensions 156.2*75.6*8.2.

Realme 2 Design

On the front section, the device highlights a notch structure on the top along with the front camera for the selfie and an earpiece. Now coming to the bottom bezel, a micro-USB port, the speaker, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and a microphone are built-in. Next, to the left edge of the smartphone, you can spot volume buttons and the dual nano-SIM card slot whilst the right edge supports power button.

Users can observe the amazing diamond-cut design with black and blue color at the device’s rear panel. It supports dual rear camera set up with camera sensors being 13MP + 2MP paired with an LED flashlight and the fingerprint sensor. The logo ‘Realme’ is apparent at the bottom of the rear panel.

As per the reviews of users, the design could have been appreciating more if the power button and the volume buttons would have been positioned on the same edge of the device.

Display

Realme 2 Display

Realme 2 features a resolution screen of 1520*720 pixels paired with an aspect ratio of 19:9 and 6.2-inches HD+ display. The device comprises an auto-brightness attribute that has proven to be effective enough to maintain the brightness of the set indoors and outdoors. In order to diminish the blue light emission, a specific night shield set is designed. Considering multiple viewing angles, the display of the handset looks quite alike. Though its display can’t be considered as extraordinary, it would amaze you.

Performance

The device is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 processor and features 4GB of RAM and 64GB internal memory that is expandable up to 256GB inserting a microSD card. In addition to 4GB+64GB, the users could also opt for its variant with 3GB RAM and 32GB internal storage configuration that is comparatively cheaper than the former.

The device operates on Android 8.1.0 Oreo with multiple connectivity options i.e., 4G Volte, GPS, Wi-Fi, OTG, and Bluetooth. Now, talking about the sensors, it supports acceleration sensor, proximity sensor, magnetic induction sensor, G-sensor, and light sensor. The device also comprises the user-friendly options including but not limited to Smart & Convenient Setting.

Apart from the full-screen multitasking aspect, turning the landscape mode of the device on, users could swipe inward from the side of the notched section to get prompt access to multiple applications. The device features a 3-Finger Screenshot element in which (as the name itself suggests) the users are required to swipe using 3 fingers to capture a screenshot. Besides that, Smart call, Assistive Ball, Smart Assistant, and Smart Driving are some other essential features of the handset.

Now the interesting part is clone apps specially designed to assist users to operate multiple social media accounts simultaneously on the same device. Moreover, there also exists a clone phone setting option that helps the users to share data from one handset to another.

Coming to the security and lock features, Realme 2 provides you with face lock, passcode, and fingerprint sensor. Furthermore, using the Smart Lock features you can keep your phone unlocked in secure spots such as your residence or workplace. The device audio on speakers can be utilized to watch the small videos in your room but it doesn’t support movies or music as the background sound alters and distorts at high volumes.

So to watch films and listen to music, you would require connecting earphones or headphones to the device. Now, the best thing is you aren’t required to open plenty of apps to clear cache or view the memory and files. Instead within just a single app i.e., file manager you can view the entire audio, videos, images, games, and other applications.

Camera

Realme 2 Camera

The camera is also designed in a sober manner i.e. while tapping the phone camera, a certain option like Time-Lapse, Photo, Video, Portrait, sticker, HDR, and Pano easily appears. The users can zoom the rear dual camera up to 2 times. With very little or no grain, the 13MP + 2MP dual rear cameras are designed to let users click detailed and clear shots. As per the company’s claim, the PDAF phase focusing technology of the Realme 2 camera sensors alleviates the time consumed to concentrate while capturing the shot.

Battery

Similar to other smartphones, the phone takes around 3 hours to get completely charged and the battery life is quite impressive i.e., it would last for one and a half-day. However, for the heavy usage like playing games for 4-5 hours, watching online movies, using Wi-Fi or cellular data, video calling, and other features may drain the battery within 8-9 hours. It has the battery capacity of 4320mAh that’s brilliant for the nonstop phone users.

Final verdict

For a smartphone to progress and survive in today’s tough competition, Realme 2 could have a lot more features. Its battery seems quite impressive and the camera sensors are even fine, however, its design and performance aren’t exceptional that could stand out. Now coming to the price, if camera sensors and design isn’t your major priority and you desire to get a budget model with long-lasting battery life, Realme 2 is perhaps the best possible option in the market.
