Spotify launches its new Co.Lab event series in an attempt to help new and emerging artists make sense of the dynamic music industry.
Co.Lab aims at being potentially useful for upcoming artists in this ruthless industry where musicians have to perform the jobs of promoting, tour managing, booking and other important things just to carve out a place for themselves.
The programming is supposed to launch in mid-October and provide different workshops aimed at guidance in touring, merchandising and revenue streams and feature expert speakers from across the music and media industries the likes of Annie Flook (director touring & artist development, Atlantic Records), Malia James (video music director), Kacie Lehman (senior VP partnerships at MAC Presents), Jenny Swiatowy (VP, head of creative sync licensing, Capitol Music Group) and Jamal Dauda (global head of music, WeTransfer).
The sessions, part of the Spotify for Artists campaign, will take place in New York and Los Angeles. With each event of the series belonging to a particular theme in the music industry, the workshops are designed to help artists “build your network and understand the nuts and bolts of the modern music industry.”
The streaming service’s payment models have been criticized as negatively impacting working musicians. However, Spotify takes the credit of having earlier launched a new feature that lets independent artists upload music directly onto the streaming platform through their ‘Spotify For Artists’ account. It had even introduced the feature where artists and labels could suggest music for playlist consideration.
Verified Spotify artists and artists with 1000 or more followers who are 21 and above years of age can sign up for the first five Co.Lab events of this soon-to-be-launched series.
