The latest entry to the Qualcomm’s mid-range Snapdragon 600 series is made as the company has introduced the Snapdragon 675 Mobile Platform. The new Snapdragon 675 chipset is a direct successor to the current generation Snapdragon 670 which was only announced back in August. There are basically three areas that Snapdragon 675 covers as the company claims, Gaming, Photography, and Artificial Intelligence.
In an effort to increase its mid-range smartphone system-on-chip Qualcomm brings forth a new platform; Snapdragon 675. This iterates on the current design, bringing some important upgrades. It comes as an update of Snapdragon 670 SoC which was launched in August as an update to its predecessor Snapdragon 660. This chip is made using 11nm LPP technology, an octa-core Kryo 460 CPU and Adreno 612 GPU.
The new chip supports Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 4+ technology that debuted last year to deliver a faster charging experience over previous Quick Charge versions. The San Diego-based company has separately revealed that its Quick Charge technology now powers more than 1,000 mobile devices, accessory, and controls worldwide.
The new Snapdragon 675 adds an additional MIPI CSI port, totaling up to three. This allows the new SoC to be able to operate three cameras at once, which is something that will seemingly become very popular in the coming months as more devices with the telephoto, wide-angle, and super-wide angle modules are announced.
As for the gaming Qualcomm seems to have employed software gaming enhancements (like Huawei’s GPU Turbo technology) on the SD675 as it promises to deliver 90 percent reduced junks. Imaging is the other improved feature of the Snapdragon 675 Mobile Platform. The chipset supports front-facing or rear-mounted triple cameras with features such as portrait mode and 3D face unlock. Phones featuring it will also carry support for limitless slow-motion videos of HD quality.
In comparison to the Snapdragon 670, the newly announced SD675 offers 30 percent faster gaming launch experience and 35 percent faster internet browsing. Qualcomm says that the Snapdragon 675 Mobile Platform is available now; the new SoC is scheduled to be available in commercial devices in Q1 in the first quarter of 2019.
