Apple is in a process with their plannings to launch iPhone in 2020 with 5G. Talks are that the 5G modems will be provided by Intel’s 8161 5G modems, and will be excavating Qualcomm as its sole provider.

Though Apple is all ready to ditch Qualcomm but is apparently not so happy with the ongoing performance regarding the making of 8060 modems as Intel is not able to reduce the heat dissipation with its latest chips as any sort of heat generation will cause problem with the battery which will result in the decrease of battery life like the problems happened earlier with 4G LTE phones.

This is very important for its 5G as U.S. carriers Verizon and AT&T plan on using millimeter-wave spectrum between 30 and 300 GHz. Intel is working on a precursor to the 8161 which is known as 8060, it is going to be used for the testing of iPhones launched with 5G in the year 2020, it will be using a 10-nanometer process which will increase the density of the transistor and the density for more speed.

Even after such ongoing issues, Intel doesn’t look worried at all but it is a bit concerned as Apple also has an option which is a MediaTek chip maker and is potential in supplying modem chips. But all Intel says is that “the issues should get resolved soon and it’s not serious enough for Apple to go back to Qualcomm”.
