Asus is opting out of manufacturing general and ordinary smartphones and will focus mainly on their business on gamers and power users and as such their Zenfone series will probably be the last of their smartphone lines. Asus does have a substantial amount of presence in other areas of technology but in the smartphone arena, they have fallen flat on their faces. However, Asus’s Republic of Gamers or ROG brand has built up a name for themselves among PC enthusiasts. Asus is clinging on to the ROG with the specific target in mind.

The Board of Directors at the Asus company have decided unanimously to venture into the new AIoT sector. The decision of Asus for not manufacturing anymore in the smartphone series resulted in the exit of its current CEO, Jerry Shen. Jerry Shen has been with the company for over 25 years. He will continue till the end of the month and he is planning on setting up a new company with the focus on AIoT. Jerry Shen will be succeeded by S.Y. Hsu who is currently heading Asustek’s PC business and Samson Hu who is leading its worldwide customer care service.

The change that is to take place within the corporative system of Asus is planned for 1st January 2019. Jerry Shen has been with Asus for over 25 years, he has been assigned the post of CEO of the same for 10 years now. Shen has emphasized the fact that from here on Asus will focus on power users. This means that Asus will release more phones like ASUS ROG and fewer phones like the latest ZenFone series.

Asus has been tremendously successful before in investing and releasing gaming smartphones in the market and they already have some experience in the marketing of high-quality PC gaming hardware. They hope to extend this gaming hardware to smartphones, making it gaming friendly and by doing so they hope to hold their own in this ever-evolving industry.
