Finally, after much speculations, the Xiaomi Mi Play has been announced in a launch event by the Chinese smartphone maker in its home country, China. The smartphone has been launched as the new affordable offering in the Mi-series from the company. The Mi Play is a middle-range smartphone with robust features and attractive designs that make it stand out of the crowd.

Design

The Xiaomi Mi Play has an entirely different appearance when compared to any other Xiaomi smartphone. The rear is made up of plastic chassis with an all-glass front. The front screen is topped with a high screen-to-body ratio display with a small U-shaped notch up top. The biggest highlight is its water drop notch at the top with a USB Type-C slot packed with the 3.5 mm audio jack at the bottom.

The Mi Play measures the scale at 150 grams tipped with 147.76×71.89×7.8 mm. The device is enhanced with a Full HD 5.84-inch display with a pixel density of 1080×2280 px. Under the hood, the smartphone features the Deca-Core P35 SoC which is clocked at 2.3 GHz.

For better photography, the smartphone has an 8 MP front-facing snapper and dual 12 MP + 2 MP rear cameras with an LED flash. Most notably, the 12 MP rear sensors have a 1.25 ultra micron size pixel which helps in capturing better pictures. It also features the fingerprint sensor at the back. Xiaomi says it has HDR, EIS, and a bunch of AI features. The front camera is an 8MP sensor with HDR, face recognition, and portrait mode and more. Below are some camera samples.

The processor is a brand new chipset from MediaTek called the Helio P35. The Helio P35 is a 12nm octa-core chipset clocked at 2.3GHz. It has a feature called CPU/GPU dual-turbo technology, and its AnTuTu score places its performance above that of the Snapdragon 625.
