Microsoft launched HoloLens back in 2016 as a dev kit and in that year, made it available in a ‘Commercial Suite’ edition. For the next two years, Microsoft has been able to expand their business horizon with the help of HoloLens thanks to the headset’s distribution channels and options, and they sealed a $480 million contract with the US Army.

With all the commotion surrounding the headset, it is very shocking to see that both the HoloLens Commercial Suit and Development Edition has been out of stock for several weeks now. Customers who are looking for HoloLens are requested by a spokesperson of Microsoft to visit the HoloLens website for a listing of HoloLens resellers and rental options.

Microsoft HoloLens Development Edition and Commercial Suite are out of stock and unavailable from Microsoft Stores. For customers looking to purchase HoloLens, please visit HoloLens.com for a listing of HoloLens resellers as well as rental options – A Microsoft spokesperson.

However, this solution does not help or provide anyone with the substantial amount of info as to what actually happened to HoloLens. The website, given by the spokesperson, shows that the headset is out of stock there too. There may be some reasons behind this, but the possible reason that caught everyone’s attention is that HoloLens 2 may be on the verge of being launched. Other sensible reasons may also be that there is some kind of disruption in the production or it may be because of Microsoft’s contract with the army.

After the launch of HoloLens two years back, Microsoft has not offered a new version or even an upgraded version of the headset. However, Microsoft did subtly hint at developing next version of HoloLens mentioning that they were working on a new mission of the HoloLens HPU and the new chip will be used in the next version of HoloLens.

Their ‘Project Kinect for Azure’ of May was dedicated to the sensor package in the next HoloLens. Even though nothing is known about the key factors, it is being speculated that it may rely on a Qualcomm Snapdragon chip doing away with the Intel CPU.
