The new year is the time to celebrate and imbibe the joyous environment whereas there will be specific users who might not be happy on this special occasion particularly the users of S40 Nokia devices including Asha 501, 201, or 301 and others. The reason is quite disturbing since the biggest social media platform known as WhatsApp which has become one of the most reliable sources for communication would stop providing its services in these devices. December 31st, 2018 would be the last day for WhatsApp to provide support to these devices.
However, WhatsApp prolonged its services for a long time even after the official announcement of not being viable to these devices, the users continued to receive the support and was being able to communicate which will finally come to a conclusion.
The S40 Nokia phones were very convenient to use and were quite famous for its affordable prices. The time has come to change these phones and exchange with the smartphones or maybe wait a bit till WhatsApp becomes available for Nokia 8110 4G or some similar feature phone with the logo of Nokia for future uses.
WhatsApp had expanded rapidly with the upgradations of new features after its acquisitions by Facebook in 2014. Due to the immense expansion of users, WhatsApp had to pull out its support for some specific devices and provide with further upgradations to the outdated devices which would be productive for the development of the company.
It is expected that the same fate even will be waiting for the smartphones running on Android v2.3.7 and older including iOS 7 and the other versions where WhatsApp is allowing to pull its service by February 2020.
The decision of not providing with further support was supposedly a tactical move because there had been a majority group of people who have stopped using it or have continued to shift into better devices with more effective usage. It had also been a brilliant move for the expansion of the business withdrawing the support for 1-2% of the users by concentrating more on the 98-99% who ensures a better scope for extending the functions of the device.
The versions which are affected included Android versions older than 2.3.3, Windows Phone 8.0 and other including iPhone 3GS/iOS 6 and Nokia Symbian S60 with BlackBerry OS and BlackBerry 10.
Recently recommendation had been made to use the following devices which include Android running OS 4.0+, iPhone running on iOS 8+, Windows Phone 8.1+ and Jio Phone and Jio Phone 2 and had been suggested to verify the mobile number on the new device. WhatsApp can only be activated with one phone number applicable for one particular device and provides with options to transport the chat history as the email attachment without the ability to transfer it between platforms.
