Every once in a while, we see one or another notebook company that tries to stand out from the variety of the market with some new components and differentiated ideas. In 2018, we saw new products like Acer’s 2-in-1 gamer notebook and ZenBook Pro with a screen on the trackpad itself, but now Dell has patented a new convertible format laptop which may come soon with dual-screen.

In a new patent registry published last Thursday, the company aims to develop a Laptop with modular screens, where the user could keep only one display in the body of the device in a traditional format or raise the amount to two screens.

As leaked in patented images, the laptop can be completely used with only one screen offering a more traditional format and without major changes compared to competitors in the category. It also has a differentiated hinge that could add up a second integrated screen from the laptop itself.

The patent shows the possibility of implementing two screens on the same hinge, expanding the field of view of the content being shown in the notebook in different scenarios for the user to; whether study, work or leisure. It is possible to make use of two side-by-side screens to enhance productivity or consume content.

The patent also reveals the modularity of the screens and other versatility of the product. The user can command the keyboard and trackpad while the other screen displays content for the viewer, making it an excellent choice for anyone who wants to share photos, videos, or work content without everyone squeezing in front of the notebook.

Because it is a patent, it is unclear when or if the product will be launched since many patents are used only to register, save and maintain the brand’s intellectual property behind the idea.
