Xiaomi has allocated the Redmi line to a new brand, leading to Redmi’s emergence from comparative subordination to the Mi line models, which led to its inability to have any flagship models. Now not only does Redmi exist independently, it is, in all probability, all set to launch a flagship smartphone powered by Snapdragon 845.

A screenshot revealed by an insider on Twitter of a correspondence replete with instructions from the head of Xiaomi provides hints regarding what might be an upcoming Redmi smartphone. Although originally written in Chinese, the screenshot has since been translated by the insider and speaks of a device powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 845.

At the same time, the screenshot reveals a comparison between Snapdragon 845 and 625, stating that the latter is better so far as performance is concerned. This may clue to the fact that while Redmi has a number of smartphones powered by Snapdragon 625, the one that immediately springs to mind at its mention is the Redmi 6 Pro. With this in mind, it may be speculated that the upcoming smartphone may as well be the 6 Pro’s successor, becoming the new Redmi 7 Pro.

The screenshot reveals further information regarding the device’s design, which has been promised a better camera. It shall also have a Type-C port, a headphone jack, infrared remote control, a battery that charges quickly, and an NFC adapter to allow wireless charging. It is also expected to have a better screen-to-edge ratio, with the screenshot specifying the use of “no big, black edges”. The device might have a fingerprint scanner integrated into the screen since the screenshot clearly rejects one on the back of the device. It is also expected to have better sound quality.

While this tease carries ample information, the speculation can rest only when Redmi makes an official announcement. And the announcement may not be all that far away since it is already being said that Redmi may have a smartphone-related announcement scheduled for January 10.
